What Do You Think About Resident Evil Operation Raccoon City | PS3, Xbox 360, PC

Resident Evil is passed to the cooperative action with a game that bases all of its potential in the multiplayer experience too sloppy for a player. If you already had in the past month of January our fill of the famous saga of the remarkable Capcom Resident Evil Revelations for Nintendo 3DS, now, before it reaches the anticipated sixth installment in the month of November, we get a spin-off of the series, something that is not the first time the company Nippon experience. If the series began as a horror adventure, putting the term survival horror fashion, with the fourth and fifth installment took a turn toward action, the line that seems also going to take the sixth Resident Evil. Before he had a couple of experiments with the Gun Survivor PSOne and PS2 games, shooting with light guns, which had some continuity with The Umbrella Chronicles and The Darkside Chronicles for Wii, and the saga in its two deliveries Outbreak for PS2 were a bet, perhaps too far ahead of your time, take the series to multiplayer online.

Therefore this Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City is almost a natural and predictable evolution from Capcom, in an age where multiplayer modes via the Internet are more fashionable than ever, with games like Call of Duty or Battlefield destroying millions of players, and having shown in the past, he does not mind taking sub-series or its derivative games saga star. But before you start shelling the different aspects of the game, we want to make clear what it is, so that no one is misleading. We are faced with multiplayer action, four-player cooperative campaign in its main, neither more nor less, knowing full well what kind of target audience.

Shots and more shots, tons of zombies and soldiers, set in the streets of Raccoon City, without trying to tell a great story or include any adventurers, and not even trying too hard to bet on a single player experience. Therefore not be tearing his hair, nor curse Capcom for mistreating his saga or stain, simply this is a spin-off, and not the first time he does, in this case by the Canadian and somewhat unknown Slant Six Games. The excuse is like any other, this time with a story set in September 1998, in parallel to the events of Resident Evil 2, and even allowing us to rewrite what happened in that game.

This time we will side with the "bad" in the series, taking the role of one of the six soldiers of the Umbrella Security Services (USS), specifically a group called Los Lobos. When you start playing you have to choose one of six characters: Lupo - assault class, Spectre - monitoring, Vector - recognition, Bertha - medical, Four Eyes - scientific field and Beltway - demolition. These differ primarily in their abilities, as is common weapons for all characters, and do not have any personal history or major distinguishing features, and are limited to mere pawns in the plot.

We can play the campaign alone or with three other people through internet, but offers no split-screen mode from the same console. If you play alone, the other three soldiers are controlled by the game's artificial intelligence, much improved by the way, what a drag just for fun and becoming frustrating moments. No help, no revive among them, are left behind in fights absurd die easily and in short, are a drag. Not that the enemy AI is great, do not ask zombies ready of course, but there are also soldiers, and these show no hint of wit, acting strangely. The campaign is divided into seven phases, which can be finished in about 40 minutes each, although I note that is a tough game, especially playing alone.

We'll have to go through the streets of Raccoon locations never before seen by others already known, but with a recognizable look, killing all the enemies that come your way and following simple goals such as reaching a particular point or activate a switch. Spec Ops soldiers, zombies, lickers, hunters, dogs, tyrants, etc., the repertoire of enemies gradually increases to be quite large and dangerous, becoming an explosive cocktail mixture of all these "races" on the same stage with chaotic situations on a par with that funny. We will see some old friends of the series in our way, even become our goal, and history as we have said is anecdotal, if not nonexistent, just spin the various action scenes, although it has wasted so rich universe.

One of the strengths of the game is its control, responds well, is fluid, according to the intensity of development, and anyone who has played an action title in the third person in this generation will quickly find comfortable. Your system is not as complete coverage as in other games, just enough to stick to a wall to hide, but it is a title that requires a lot to hide, and usually invites more constantly move, given the numerous and unpredictable enemies. Before we launch into a mission, we can-and must-configure and equip the selected character.

We can unlock two and three active passive skills through experience points and buying before starting the mission, and then also each of these can be improved up to three layers. For example Lupo, the leader of Los Lobos, counts as passive skills with body-armor reduces damage taken by 10% - and rapidly recharge reduced by 33% recharge speed, and as active abilities with incendiary charges - allows for ten seconds to make some shots that set fire to the enemies to death, to shoot an infinite number of bullets for ten seconds-and super-soldier cancels the next 3 attacks received and increases the damage done. Spectre has a proximity sensor, one for finding objects, both curative and ammunition such as collectable, there are several types-biothermal vision, sound vision and a threat detector. Vector has stealth and evasion skills, you can activate a camouflage that makes him invisible, and you can even convert and hold an enemy soldier. Bertha is the team doctor, and Four Eyes a kind of science, capable of infecting with the virus-T enemy soldiers, and even turn them into allies. Finally Beltway is an expert in explosives, and is capable of laying mines or trap fragmentation, and throwing plastic explosives.

So to start playing, we have to choose character, primary weapon, secondary weapon, and one of the three active abilities, if we have them unlocked. Weapons like the unblocked skills with experience points: assault rifle, assault rifle, military rifle, hammer, devastating machine gun, TMP, several types of shotgun, and so on. This corresponds to as the primary, as in the secondary have only six types of guns. We also have melee, more or less powerful depending on the character, that are not worth much more formidable to the enemy, but we can help in a crowd of zombies.

One of the things that I draw attention to some fast start will be the spent ammunition, and is quite normal to see us run out of bullets and kicking the scene looking for boxes of ammunition, but also some enemies left to be overcome. We heal with green herbs, we can not store, and sprays that cure several members of the group at a time and that we can carry. There are several types of grenades and stun, explosive, incendiary, and a factor to take into account quite original: we can be infected by zombies. If this happens to us, a circle on the screen will indicate how much we have to transform into one of these creatures, and we find a cure quickly. If a group member has been infected, we must also try to cure him, because once turned into a zombie, it will be a serious threat. There are two types of zombies, the slow and fast, much more dangerous, and one of the latter will be on what we become.

While his campaign may last about five hours, depending on the difficulty chosen and if we play with friends or computer-controlled characters, versus the four modes for up to eight players are almost equally important. In Attack team to do team points by killing enemies, in Biohazard vials are located on the map and both teams have to take with them to bring to its base, winning the first who manages to five, is starring Heroes celebrities in the series as Carlos Oliveira, Claire Redfield, Jill Valentine or Leon S. Kennedy will be faced by teams and finally Survival, a sort of Horde mode in which we must endure until the arrival of a rescue helicopter.

There is also a way Nemesis announced, exclusive of the Xbox 360 version, which we imagine will come as downloadable content, as it is not included in the final version. We could play it in depth in the recent Spring Showcase held by Microsoft, and we really liked. It consists of team play and win one of two areas-or both-and score points, as each team tries to control the legendary Nemesis through a terminal, attacking opponents. Finally seen game modes versus four, which is not an overwhelming number, it could have included this as well, rounding out the product, but Capcom has kept it as DLC, something that we have used lately.

With respect to graphics, we are faced with a product that stands in for something special, but not too out of tune in a particular aspect. The textures are not very detailed, the animations leave something to be desired, and modeled are decent, but the scenes are full of details, well-designed, if a bit monochromatic, a game being too dark and gray. The creatures that we face are made correctly, and we can chop the zombies, tearing arms and legs. Perhaps his strong point is that despite the large accumulation of enemies are on screen at times, the frame rate does not suffer, and moves all the time with little problems and fluently.

At the sound we have a little electronic melodies and ugly, very forgettable. Hopefully with Resident Evil 6 make a greater effort, and the dubbing is at the height of the product. Here, like many things in the game, the voices met, but without much fanfare, and some in particular a bit unfortunate. This is a title that taking the Resident Evil universe offers something never before seen in the series. Pure action, frenetic and intense, always accompanied by three companions, whether human or managed by the CPU. There is hardly any story, the campaign is not very long, but its multiplayer modes via the Internet is quite entertaining and enjoyable. If you think playing alone is much less desirable, due to very poor artificial intelligence, and development that ends up being a bit monotonous and repetitive, with no major moments or situations that raise the seat. We looked like a bad idea, taking it as a game derived from the series, but its implementation has been in just right, and had plenty of starting material to have been a little more ambitious and remarkable. In any case if you like zombies pounding along to colleagues, is a title to consider.
